Hello – I’m Julia Shelley and I started work this week as Interim Chief Executive. I know that Teresa’s departure is a big change for everyone at Swan and she will be a hard act to follow! She has given me a good induction and helpful handover notes, but I will be asking lots of questions too and am looking forward to meeting everyone and learning more about your work.
The Board has asked me to work until a new permanent Chief Executive has been appointed, and my role is to help you all keep things going smoothly, to work with the Board and to take forward some of the strategic priorities.
My background is leading and managing local charities working in housing and social care. I was CEO at Age UK Lambeth for 10 years up to 2013, providing a range of services to older people including information, advice and advocacy. More recently I have worked in a number of interim and short-term roles in carers and older people’s organisations, carried out project evaluations and development reports on a consultancy basis.
I have always worked in London so it’s an exciting change to be working in Wiltshire, Somerset and BaNES. I have family in the area so it’s a good opportunity to see more of them as I take advantage of their bed and breakfast offers.
I look forward to meeting you over the next few weeks. I am working three days each week, usually this will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with two days in the offices and one day working from home.
