Be Heard in BaNES (BHIB) is a new outreach training and support programme that focuses on self-advocacy.

Generously funded by St John’s Foundation, BHiB is FREE and available to anyone who lives or works within Bath & North East Somerset, is over the age of 18 years old and who has, or works with or cares for, someone who has a low to medium mental health condition.

The training programme covers:

  • What is advocacy and what models of advocacy are available
  • What are an individual’s rights within the law in relation to advocacy
  • Identifying barriers to self-advocacy & how to overcome them
  • Toolkits to self-advocate and how to use them successfully

There are two courses available:

The training for service users is provided with the option of free follow-up support to organise and facilitate peer groups to tackle issues that can be resolved with self or peer group advocacy.

Availability

We can provide in-house training for staff, volunteers and peer mentors for three or more staff. The training is provided at a time and date suitable to you at your venue.

If you have three of more service users who would benefit from the training we can also provide this in-house at a time and date suitable to you and your service users.

If you have less than three individuals who are interested in the training or if it is not possible to convene three people together at one time, we do provide training via the Wellbeing College and Volunteer Pass websites. These sessions are open to all; are based on the service user training and are run in Bath and Midsomer Norton, Radstock.
