Statutory advocacy supporting qualifying patients to understand and exercise their rights under the Mental Health Act.

Independent Health Complaints Advocacy (IHCA)

Our advocates provide statutory, independent NHS complaints advocacy supporting people who want to make a formal complaint using the NHS Complaints Procedure. This can be about any aspect of NHS-funded healthcare and can include issues such as poor treatment or service. Click on your county link to make a referral.

Generic Advocacy

Advocacy for adults aged 18 and above, that is not required under the Care Act. This will include people from all client groups including carers and will be time-limited and issue-based.

Care Act Advocacy

Statutory advocacy that meets the requirements of the Care Act 2014 and associated regulations in supporting people who would otherwise:

1) Experience substantial difficulty in being fully involved in assessment, care and support planning, review and safeguarding processes.

2) Where there is no one appropriate available to support and represent their wishes.

Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA)

Statutory advocacy as set out in the Mental Capacity Act 2005,  Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Codes of Practice and associated regulations, supporting particularly vulnerable people, lacking in mental capacity, who have no family or friends who are available and appropriate to support or represent them and have not previously named someone who could help with a decision.

Dementia Advocacy Service

Our Dementia Advocacy Service supports people with memory loss and in the early stages of dementia to create a ‘Living Well Plan’, as well as people in the later stages of their illness to ensure their views and wishes are acted upon – enabling them to retain control when they are no longer in a position to express their wishes.
